About

What is Yoga?

Yoga is an old discipline from india, it is both spiritual and physical. Yoga uses breathing techniques, exercise and meditation.

It helps to improve health and happiness. Yoga is not a religion , it is a way of living aiming towards a healthy mind and body.

“When we bring our mind into our body,

  the body becomes mindful and

the mind becomes embodied"

                                                     -  Donna Farhi

ORIGINS OF YOGA

Yoga arose from the ancient Dravidian and Vedic traditions of ten thousand years ago or more. It grew from the need to understand the various aspects of human experience, from the physical through to the more subtle or inner realm.

YOGA TODAY

Why is yoga important in modern life?

Many people are stressed, have back issues and/or suffer from limited range of movement due to their lifestyle, work, travel, longer days etc.

Hence we need to keep ourselves moving.

Jean uses some of Sarah Key’s "Back in Action" self treatment plans in her classes, with awareness on why yoga helps our concentration, creativity, balance and sharpens our memory, to maintain a positive physical and mental health. Yoga improves our muscle strength, stamina and brings immune and mental stability.

  • Maintain a healthy back

  • Improve flexibility

  • Increase your energy

  • Reduce stress

  • Breathe better

  • Meditate to rejuvenate

VINYASA FLOW YOGA

Vinyasa, also called flow because of the smooth way that the poses run together, is a popular contemporary style of yoga.

Vinyasa has both physical and mental benefits.

Physically, sweat releases toxins and re-energies our bodies. Mentally, the synchronised breathing relaxes the chatter of the mind and helps release any blockages of energy flow throughout our bodies.

Vinyasa flow yoga is good for beginners and mixed levels.

AERIAL YOGA

Aerial yoga uses silk fabric to assist yoga poses. The fabric is connected from two overhead points that are structurally engineered  to create a hammock or sling.

The silk acts like a partner supporting and deepening your practice poses.  It can also be seen in the traditional " Iyengar  Yoga”  practices that utilise the rope loops hooked to a  wall, in order to help students in poses.

Aerial yoga practice is similar to Asana poses and flow sequences practiced during a mat practice, but with different points of focus, awareness and alignment.

This yoga prop acts as a support. The fabric contains certain areas and  joints, while gravity stretches and extends.

Aerial yoga is playful and a challenging way to vary your yoga practice. You will feel lighter, longer and more peaceful after one class and your body and mind will strengthen and relax with regular practice.
